Apibūdinimas: I'm seeking a competent python programmer.

Prefer someone who has some experience with Monte Carlo simulations and basic statistical analysis. Prefer someone who administers or plays competitive sports or games, and enters tournaments. Prefer someone who has a lively spectator interest in a variety of sports or games.

If you're the sort of person who's been known to cry "That's not FAIR!" at a chess tournament or in a softball league, you're likely to find the work interesting.

I write a blog called tourneygeek.com, which explores all aspects of tournament design. One of my chief tools is a tournament simulator, which allows me to evaluate different designs by comparing the results from many trials. I have an existing simulator, which was written for me in python by a programmer who has moved on. I want someone who will take over this code base, eliminating bugs and enabling new features.

Phase 1 will be for the contractor to review and understand the existing code for the simulator, which uses 573 lines of python. The deliverable for this phase will be revised code that eliminates at least five of six known bugs.

Phase 2 will be for the contractor to add at least three of four requested new features, all of which are thought to require relatively minor extensions to the code. Since I'll be paying you for some relatively unproductive "learning the ropes" in phase 1, I'd ask that the contractor be willing to continue through at least phase 2.

Phase 3 and later phases will be for the contractor to add new features that extend the capabilities of the simulator, including some that require more extensive additions to the code. There is no natural end date for this work, which can last as long as you and I both find it worthwhile.

The simulator runs only on my Macintosh computers. Commercial distribution is not anticipated, and slick user interface is a low priority.

This is an avocation rather than a business, but i'm willing to pay at least the going rate for competent help.

Before I retired, I was a product designer for a major information company, so while my own coding skills are limited, I have deep experience in working productively with those can code.

I'll want to see some evidence of ongoing progress, but deadlines are flexible.
